Woman’s Day is 1 week away -and what better way to celebrate than with a beer perfected by Belgium’s first Female brewmaster – Madame Rosa Merckx!
The Belgian Beer Company now has 3 variations of this refreshingly fruity beer – complex Cuvée Brut, sparkling Fruitesse and luxurious Gouden Band.
The history of Liefmans extends far beyond that of red-lettered Duvel. This story began in Oudenaarde by Jacobus Liefmans in 1679.
The magnificent, original brewery still stands on the banks of the River Schelde.
Madame Rosa took over the brewing reigns in 1985 and in 2008, Liefmans became part of the Duvel Moortgat group.
What sets this elegant, non-traditional beer apart? The ingredients in each of the 3 Liefmans beers are varying degrees of fresh and tart cherry fruitiness. These anti-oxidant rich berries are ferments in open copper vessels with a mix of light, dark and roasted malts.
Maturation can then range from between 2 months to 7 years in the cellars. The final, unique brew of typical bitterness with sweet overtones is due to the love and careful craftsmanship assigned to blending young and old beers to a perfect balance.
A further secret to the incomparable Liefmans taste, is the special micro flora only found in Oudenaarde that create a perfect environment for making fantastic fruit beer!
The Belgian Beer Company will be celebrating Woman’s Day with a Liefmans Fruitesse giveaway… keep checking this blog to learn more through this lovely Liefmans week!
