Hoppy Happiness? Happy Hoppiness?

HOUBLON CHOUFFE DOBBELEN IPA TRIPEL (at 9%, try saying that quickly after several) … Or just Houblon Chouffe will do, too.

lachouffe_houblon1-2Just when you thought the Chouffe Gnome had gone underground, he’s back with a merry marriage of beer cultures. The Chouffe Gnome’s latest beer on offer from Belgian Beer Company is the hoppy Houblon Chouffe.  Houblon actually means “hop” in French.

houblonFeeling a bit betwixt and between over whether to go with a hoppy IPA, or a strong Tripel?  The Brasserie d‘ Achouffe has combined these two beers beautifully to create the Houblon Chouffe, which was brewed for the first time in 2006.  Described by Chouffe as  “A unique marriage between the English tradition of IPAs, the American new revolution of Imperial IPAs and the classic Belgian way of brewing.”

IMG_3775This beer is unfiltered and re-fermented in the container, with 3 types of hops being used to make the Houblon Chouffe.  The trio of hops results in a pale, golden straw colour with a naturally cloudy look.  Hops also acts as a foam stabilizer, so the head is thick, creamy and will see you through to your very last sip.  This international merger of beer styles has produced a beer that is smooth and harmoniously balanced, with a marked bitterness and a delicate, subtle fruitiness.  It is complex, interesting and uniquely delicious!

And guess what … we also sell it in 750ml! Hoppy Days!
